Our Ocean Connection

We are all connected to the ocean and dependent on this invaluable resource for our oxygen, food, energy, economy, and much more. Our history is inextricably linked to it, and the stories it can share about our heritage are endless. Shipwrecks, forts, and maritime museums tell tales of seafaring adventure and sacrifice. Memorials and historical parks commemorate the heroism of servicemen and women in wartime. Parks where Native Americans and islanders thrived along the coast still conserve the fabric of native culture and traditions today. The ocean is of such importance to our society that many people now make a career out of protecting ocean parks from environmental and other threats, to ensure that the sea remains an available resource for generations to come.
