Community Volunteer Ambassador

Harpers Ferry Center is pleased to welcome Community Volunteer Ambassador (CVA) Michael Fray. Michael is from Waldorf, MD, and recently graduated from Frostburg State University with a degree in Recreation and Parks Management. An Eagle Scout, Michael credits the scouting experience with fostering his love of the outdoors. He has worked at Point Lookout State Park and Charles County Parks and Recreation in Maryland, and for Delaware State Parks. He spends his free time hiking, running, and exploring new outdoor activities.

HFC is sharing Michael’s CVA position with Harpers Ferry NHP. Michael’s focus at HFC is a summit outreach event for higher education institution representatives to explore internships, partnerships, and volunteer opportunities for their students and faculty. This is the first step toward a permanent internship program with regional academic institutions.

The CVA program is jointly facilitated by the Stewards Individual Placement Program and the Northwest Youth Corps (Americorps). CVA’s help determine how national parks engage with youth, young adults, and other park constituents in service-learning community engagement programs and activities. Each year CVA’s serve 50-week internships at 51 National Park sites across the country.
