Competitions

HDP sponsors several annual documentation competitions. Click on the following links to learn more about competition schedules, requirements, and winners.

  • The Charles E. Peterson Prize is awarded to the best set of measured drawings. Students or student teams may enter. HABS, HAER, and HALS drawings are eligible for the prize.
  • The Kenneth L. Anderson Prize is a subset of the Peterson Prize. It is awarded to the highest-awarded set of measured drawings prepared by a student team from a university in Texas.
  • The Leicester B. Holland Prize is awarded to the best single-sheet measured drawing. Students and professionals may enter. HABS, HAER, and HALS drawings are eligible for the prize.
  • The HALS Challenge awards prizes for HALS short-format historical documentation of our nation's cultural landscapes. The Challenge has a different theme each year and is open to everyone.
