Veteran’s Day Fee Free Weekend at Steamtown NHS

SCRANTON, Pa. - Steamtown National Historic Site, downtown Scranton, Pa., will honor our military veterans and their families by waiving the park's daily Entrance Fee for everyone during Veteran's Day weekend, November 10-12.The fee free Veteran's Day weekend at Steamtown includes complimentary admission to the Park grounds, museum complex and exhibits, and scheduled walking tours, but will not include train rides and/or other amenity fees charged by the Park.Additionally, all active duty military members and their dependents are able to obtain the $80 annual pass, at no charge, during their visit to Steamtown NHS.The America the Beautiful National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass provides entrance to all national parks, national wildlife refuges, national forests, and many other Federal lands - more than 2,000 in all!Information about the free military and all National Park passes is available at www.nps.gov/findapark/passes.htm.
Steamtown National Historic Site is the only place in the National Park System where the story of steam railroading and the people who made it possible is told.The historic industrial railroad yard site features a visitor orientation center with exhibits showing how the former Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad's Scranton Yards evolved from 1850 to present, a 250-seat digital surround-sound theater showing the park movie, "Steel and Steam," throughout the day, and an active roundhouse and technology museums that tell a multimedia-rich story of the significance of railroad transportation in the U.S. Visitors may also join a scheduled Locomotive Shop tour.For a small charge - $5 for all ages 6 and older - visitors may also enjoy the "Scranton Limited" short train ride inside the railroad yards.
Located in downtown Scranton, Pa., Steamtown is open daily from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.From I-81 follow exit 185 (Central Scranton Expressway); then, follow the brown and white signs to the main entrance at Lackawanna and Cliff Avenues (GPS: N 41.41, W 75.67).
