Scranton, PA –   Steamtown National Historic Site will offer a 104-mile roundtrip excursion to the Delaware Water Gap for the “Founders Day” celebration on Saturday, June 28. This excursion travels through a tunnel, along creeks and rivers, lakes and ponds and the beautiful Pocono Plateau through East Stroudsburg and passing nine railroad stations on its way to the historic town of Delaware Water Gap.  The steam-powered excursion will depart the Steamtown NHS Boarding Platform at 9:00 a.m.

“Founders Day,” now in its fifth year, is a town-wide series of events held in honor of Antoine Dutot, who founded Dutotsburg, now Delaware Water Gap, in 1793.  Some of the planned events include a classic car show, the “Arts in the Water Gap” fine arts and crafts show, bands, jazz and strolling musicians, and a “Rubber-Duck Race” for the children on Cherry Creek.  The town is also host to a number of unique restaurants and dining establishments, and there will be a free roving trolley and bus to all venues.  After a 3 hour layover in town, the train departs at 3:00 p.m. arriving back in Scranton at approximately 5:50 p.m.

Ticket prices are $51.00 for adults 17 to 61 years old, $46.00 for ages 62 and older and $30.00 for children 6 to 16. Children under 5 require a ticket at no charge.  Credit card reservations may be made by calling (570) 340-5204 between 9:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. daily; all major credit and debit cards are accepted.

A special stop will be made at the newly restored Cresco passenger station at approximately 10:55 a.m. to pick up passengers en-route to the Founders Day celebration. The train will return to Cresco station at 3:40 p.m.

Ticket prices from Cresco to the Delaware Water Gap and return are $21.00 for adults 17 to 61 years old, $19.00 for ages 62 and older and $15.00 for children 6 to 16.  Children under 5 require a ticket at no charge. Limited seating is available.
