Steamtown NHS Excursion to the Delaware Water Gap

Scranton, PA–  Steamtown National Historic Site will offer a unique excursion to the community of Delaware Water Gap for the annual “Founders Day” celebration on Saturday, June 30. The excursion will travel over the beautiful Pocono Plateau through East Stroudsburg, passing beautifully restored railroad stations on its way to the historic town of Delaware Water Gap, where the train’s arrival will be greeted by a brass band. The steam-powered excursion will depart the Steamtown NHS Boarding Platform at 9:00 a.m.

“Founders Day”, now in its fourth year, is a town-wide series of events held in honor of Antoine Dutot, who founded Dutotsburg, now Delaware Water Gap, in 1793. Some of the planned events include a classic car show to benefit the railroad station restoration and the Arts in the Gap annual arts and fine crafts show along with an art exhibition at the Antoine Dutot Museum and Gallery. The town is also host to a number of unique dining establishments and shops. Planned activities at the historic station include displays, an operating model railroad layout and children’s activities. Transportation will be provided between the station and downtown Delaware Water Gap.  After a 3 hour layover in town, the train departs at 3:00 p.m. for a leisurely return trip to Scranton arriving at approximately 5:00 p.m.

Ticket prices are $51.00 for adults 17 to 61 years old, $46.00 for ages 62 and older and $30.00 for children 6 to 16. Children under 5 require a ticket at no charge. Credit card reservations may be made by calling (570) 340-5204 between 9:30 a.m.and 4:30 p.m. daily; all major credit and debit cards are accepted.

Located in Scranton, Pennsylvania, Steamtown is open daily from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. From I-81, follow exit 185 (Central Scranton Expressway); then, follow the signs to the main entrance at Lackawanna and Cliff Avenues.
