SCRANTON, PA – The Lackawanna & Wyoming Valley Chapter, NRHS, will sponsor Steamtown NHS "Pumpkin Express" train rides to Moscow on Saturday, October 2. This year, the special children's-themed excursions will double the fun with departures from the Excursion Boarding Platform in downtown Scranton at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Planned activities at the Moscow Station stop include:
- Photo opportunities with a haystack, "Farmer Bob" and the train crew
- Jolly Holly Balloon Twister, who will make your favorite animal
- Face painting
- Apple bobbing
- Fall craft kit making
- Giveaways, including a small pumpkin to each child
There will be plenty of fall decorations, and an HO model railroad layout will be on public display in the former Freight House. A Lionel-scale model layout will also be displayed in the former passenger station. The NRHS Chapter plans to sell apple cider, donuts, hot chocolate, hot dogs and snacks. In the event of inclement weather, some of the outside events and decorations will be moved indoors to the Freight House.
