"Shiloh National Military Park will host owl programs during the fourth week of September and the first week of October," Superintendent Woody Harrell announced today. The programs, which will take place on Thursday evening, September 29th, and Thursday evening, October 6th,will begin with a presentation on the biology and behavior of these birds. In addition, visitors will also be introduced to a live barred owl brought by guest speaker Dr. James Huggins, who is a biology professor at Union University in Jackson, Tennessee. Owls are seldom seen in the daytime, so for an audience to see them live and up close will provide an opportunity for the public to gain a greater understanding and appreciation of these birds of prey. The one and a half hour programs will begin at 7:00 p.m. The September program will take place at the Shiloh Battlefield Visitor Center Auditorium, while the October program will take place at the Tennessee River Museum in Savannah, TN. The Tennessee River Museum is located in downtown Savannah, Tennessee, about 11 miles northeast of Shiloh Battlefield.

Participants are encouraged to arrive at least 10 minutes prior to the start of the programs. There will be no fee charged to attend the programs. For more information about these programs, you may contact the Shiloh Battlefield Visitor Center at (731) 689-5696, the Tennessee River Museum at (731) 925-2364, or e-mail Shiloh Resource Management Specialist Marcus Johnson at e-mail us, to register for the programs.
