Shiloh Rangers to Offer Programs at the Tennessee River Museum

In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Tennessee River Museum in Savannah, Tennessee, park rangers from Shiloh Battlefi eld will present special history programs on Monday, October, 1; Tuesday, October 2; and Thursday, October 4, 2012.
On Monday, at 11:00 am, ranger Chris Mekow will present "Life and Death: Medicine of the Civil War." This 30-minute program discusses the army medical departments during the war and explains the tools and medical treatment soldiers received. An army surgical kit will also be displayed.
On Tuesday, at 11:30 am, ranger Heather Smedley will present the program "Letters from the Battlefield." This 30-minute presentation will include the reading of actual letters written by participants of the great Battle of Shiloh.
On Thursday, ranger Marcus Johnson will present "Medicinal Herbs of the Native Americans." This 30-minute talk will discuss the herbs used by the ancient inhabitants of the area and how these herbs were used to treat the sick.
