Government Shutdown

Due to recent determinations by the Department of the Interior, Shenandoah National Park will be able to use funds derived from entrance, camping, parking and other fees collected from park visitors in order to provide limited services during the lapse in federal appropriations. At Shenandoah, this will include snow removal, sanitation services, and trash collection, allowing visitor access to areas that would typically be accessible this time of year. Visitor centers, ranger contact stations, and other facilities will remain closed for the safety of visitors and park resources.

The Park, including the trail system, is still accessible to the public, and the Skyline Drive will be open, weather depending, from mile 0 to mile 65.5 (Front Royal to Swift Run/Rt. 33). The Drive has been closed from mile 65.5 to mile 105 (Swift Run to Rockfish Gap/I-64) due to damage from the ice storm last month and will remain closed during the government shutdown. Emergency information may be shared through the Park's Facebook and Twitter accounts. In the event of an emergency, call 1-800-732-0911 or dial 911. For more information, see www.doi.gov/shutdown.
