The Smith Run Fire in Shenandoah National Park received rain, snow and sleet overnight.   Fire activity has decreased with the precipitation. The Type 1 Interagency Incident Management Team (Southern Area Red Team) is redirecting some crews and equipment to other fires in the Valley Complex where needs are greater. Shenandoah National Park Fire personnel continue to monitor the Smith Run Fire.

The fire is currently 50% contained. As conditions permit firefighters will continue to put out hot spots, burn out as needed and remove hazard trees.

At this time the entire length of Skyline Drive is currently closed due to snow and ice. The fire has caused the following trail closures: Mt. Marshall Trail from Skyline Drive to the intersection at the Bluff Trail; Appalachian Trail between Compton Gap and the Browntown Trail; Lands Run Gap Fire Road; and the Jenkins Gap Trail.
