Park Continues Neighbor Appreciation Day

Shenandoah National Park will celebrate its communities and neighbors with the continuation of Shenandoah Neighbors' Day.On July 21, 2012, the park will waive entrance fees for those residents living in the following counties adjoining the park: Albemarle, Augusta, Greene, Madison, Nelson, Page, Rappahannock, Rockingham and Warren.Shenandoah Neighbors' Day is an annual event.

Superintendent Martha Bogle said, "The 75th Anniversary celebration in 2011 was an exciting event for the park and surrounding communities.We experienced enhanced relationships and communication among the park and our surrounding communities. We hope this fee-free day will continue this momentum into the future.We encourage our neighbors to continue reconnecting with the park and enjoy a day with their friends and families and getting to know their park better."

The Shenandoah National Park Association plans to welcome park neighbors by providing residents of the nine counties a 20% discount on all items in their bookstores located in the Dickey Ridge and Byrd visitor centers.The Shenandoah National Park Association supports the interpretive and educational activities of Shenandoah National Park.

Visitors wishing to take advantage of this fee-free day and the discounts should be prepared to provide proof of residency by showing their Virginia driver's license.
