Lewis Peak Fire Fully Contained

The Lewis Peak Fire in Shenandoah National Park is 100% contained. Some firefighters will remain for a few days to mop up and monitor the fire. The burn area, measured using GPS technology, is 215 acres.

Trails in the vicinity will remain closed. Effected trails include: Rocky Top, Austin Mountain and Lewis Peak. For current trail status call 540-999-3500.

The lightning caused fire was reported to the park Tuesday afternoon at 1:14 pm. It is located within Shenandoah National Park near Grottoes, Virginia.
