The Process of Restoration
The process of restoration is a very complex one. In the case of Rapidan Camp we knew we wanted to return it to its former simplicity and natural beauty so visitors could experience the same sense of peace and rejuvenation felt by the Hoovers when they were at the camp. It is also important to preserve the integrity of a place when making restoration decisions. To accurately capture the Rapidan Camp of the Hoover era Shenandoah National Park cultural history specialists used a combination of archival, archeological, and architectural clues.
