Prescribed burning in a sequoiamixed-conifer forest resulted in large numbers of sequoia and shrubseedlings and a reduction in litter and duff accumulations by about80%. Sequoia seedlings densities following the burn averaged 22,000 peracre (40,000 per acre in areas that burned hottest and 7,500 per acrein areas that burned the lightest).
