(Gering, NE) Scotts Bluff National Monument will expand hours for the summer starting Saturday, May 23.
To better serve visitors, the summer hours at Scotts Bluff National Monument will be extended to 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.The Summit Road will be open for uphill traffic from 8:00 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. and the grounds will be open sunrise to sunset. These operating hours will last through Labor Day weekend.
To start off the summer, visit a pioneer at the covered wagons or meet a ranger on the trail during Memorial Day Weekend. Discover what it was like to cross the continent in the 19th century and explore the geology, history, and flowers of the bluff.
Join guest speakers on Saturdays and rangers on Sundays at 3:00 p.m. this summer for an eclectic selection of programs. Topics will cover a wide variety of subjects from oxen to prairie grasses, from African American pioneers and entrepreneurs to the Donner Party. A list of the programs is available at the monument. The programs are also on the events calendar on the park webpage and will be announced on our Facebook page the week of the program.
