Scotts Bluff National Monument would like to invite you to participate in the 2019 Digital Photo Contest! Celebrate our Centennial and "Empower the Pioneer Spirit for Future Generations"

Contest begins August 1, 2019 and ends on October 31, 2019. Entries must be received by 11:59 p.m. (MDT) on October 31, 2019. Contest is open to all ages and levels.

Contest Rules

  • Photos must be of Scotts Bluff National Monument. Photos should portray the historical, cultural, ecological and/or geologic significance of Scotts Bluff National Monument.
  • Photos of all four seasons are encouraged, however, photos cannot be more than one year old.
  • All entries must be digital and submitted in JPEG, PNG, or TIF format. No watermarks or private logos will be accepted. Winning entries will be credited.
  • You may submit up to three (3) photos. Your submission is your guarentee that you are the author and copyright holder of the submitted photo.
  • Photos must not be significantly modified. Resizing, cropping, slight color correction, and spot editing is permitted. Composite images, frames, borders, watermarks and copyright notices are not allowed.
  • Photos portraying visitors engaged in illegal activities including removing plants, rocks, harassing wildlife, off-trail hiking where prohibited or photos taken from drones will be disqualified.
  • Scotts Bluff National Monument may select any photo entry for highlight on social media.

How to Enter

  • All entries must be submitted through Scotts Bluff National Monument's Facebook page (www.facebook.com/scottsbluffnps) using the hashtag #SBNM100. Please ensure your post's privacy setting is set to "public." Please include a brief description of your photo and when it was taken.
  • Entries can also be submitted to scottsbluff_nationalmonument@nps.gov with the subject line titled #SBNM100. Please include a brief description of your photo and when it was taken.
  • Format must be JPEG, PNG or TIF.
  • All entries may be asked to submit their photo in the highest resolution possible, upon request.
  • Entries must be received by 11:59 p.m. on October 31, 2019 (MDT)

Judging

  • Photos will be evaluated on quality, creativity and originality.
  • One (1) Grand Prize winner and three (3) Honorable Mentions will be selected.
  • Winners will be contacted prior to announcement. Winners (in the case of minor's, the parent/legal guardian) will be required to complete a release form.
  • Winner selections will be conducted by Scotts Bluff National Monument staff. Decisions are final and may not be contested.
  • Grand Prize- $50 gift card and Centennial keepsake provided by the Oregon Trail Museum Association. Honorable Mentions- $25 gift card and Centennial keepsake provided by the Oregon Trail Museum Association.
  • Winning photos will be featured on Scotts Bluff National Monument's Facebook page and website. Use of winning photos shall include, but not be limited to: social media, website content, publications, product artwork, and museum exhibits. Credit will be given to photographers as feasible.
  • Winners should be prepared to submit their winning photo in the highest resolution possible upon request.
  • Scotts Bluff National Monument may select any photo entry for highlight on social media.
  • You retain your rights to your photograph; however, by entering the contest, you grant Scotts Bluff National Monument (and those authorized by Scotts Bluff National Monument) a royalty-free, world-wide, perpetual, non-exclusive license to publicly display, distribute, reproduce and create derivative works of the entries, in whole or in part, in any media now existing or later developed, for any purpose, including, but not limited to, social media, website, exhibition, retail products, and interpretive programs and displays.

Keep Safety in the Picture

  • Stay on paved trails---the bluff is made of sandstone and clay so hiking off trail can be dangerous
  • Be aware of where you are standing while using your camera
  • Keep your distance from wildlife. No selfies with rattlesnakes, please!
  • Be mindful of other visitors
  • Be prepared with proper footwear, attire and water
  • Photos portraying visitors engaged in illegal activities including removing plants, rocks, harassing wildlife, off-trail hiking where prohibited or photos taken from drones will be disqualified.
