Sand Creek Massacre NHS Reopens

Kiowa County, Colorado - Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Site (NHS) re-opens to visitors today. Visitors can access public areas and all facilities and other public services are fully operational. Sand Creek Massacre NHS has been closed since October 1 due to the lapse in Congressional appropriations.

"Sand Creek Massacre NHS joins 400 other parks throughout the nation in re-opening to the public today;" said Superintendent Alexa Roberts "we encourage all Americans to take advantage of the great fall weather and enjoy a visit to their national parks."

The Sand Creek Massacre NHS is open daily from 9 am through 4 pm, seven days a week until November 30, 2013. The park Administrative Office in Eads, CO, is open Monday through Friday, 9am to 4pm.

Daily tours of the park are available upon request. Group tours can be made in advance by contacting the park Administrative Headquarters at (719) 438-5916. Entrance to the Sand Creek Massacre NHS is free. Pets on a leash are welcome.
