At 7:30 p.m., join artist Ben Allanoff at his "Perch" installation of woven reeds for an evening of reading and writing renku. No experience or ability required or expected.
This is a creative activity to do with others in the moonlight on a beautiful summer evening. Renku is a Japanese form of poetry that dates all the way back to the 1300s. It is poetry written by a group in one session. One person writes a few lines inspired by the setting, or the season, the moon or whatever. Then, each participant adds a few lines of their own, allowing the theme to evolve, resuting in one long, collectively written poem to mark the occasion.
Bring a chair or blanket to sit on, pencil and paper.
