Position DescriptionThe Student Artist-in-Residence position supports arts-based public programming at Saint-Gaudens National Historical Park (SAGA) in Cornish, NH and Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park (MABI) in Woodstock, VT. The position is employed as an independent contractor for the park’s partner organization, the Saint-Gaudens Memorial. The Student Artist in Residence will work at each park unit and will receive time, space, and materials to create an art project with lasting impacts on the visitor experience at one park.
About the OrganizationsSaint-Gaudens National Historical Park (SAGA) in Cornish, NH preserves the home, studios, gardens, and museum collection of American sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens. The park boasts the largest collection of Saint-Gaudens sculpture in the world and is the only unit of the National Park Service dedicated to a sculptor. Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park (MABI) in Woodstock, VT preserves and interprets the story of conservation history and the evolving nature of land stewardship in America. The park’s museum collection includes extensive nineteenth and twentieth century art and artifacts including Hudson River School landscape paintings. A network of gardens, carriage roads, and trails provide opportunities for nature-inspired art activities. The parks operate in partnership with the Saint-Gaudens Memorial to advance programs and educational opportunities that promote public awareness of Augustus Saint-Gaudens, his works, and the arts. LocationBoth park units are situated in the Upper Valley along the border of Vermont and New Hampshire. Cornish, NH is a rural community along the Connecticut River a short distance from Windsor, VT. Woodstock, VT is a historic town with a busy year-round tourism industry. Population centers surrounding the two parks include White River Junction and Springfield in Vermont and Lebanon and Claremont in New Hampshire. The two parks are approximately 30 minutes apart. SupportThe Student Artist-in-Residence program is coordinated and supervised by the Art-in-the-Park Coordinator based at SAGA. . Rangers at each park will provide additional day-to-day support and guidance. CompensationInterns will receive $3,000 per month in compensation. Each intern is responsible for their own housing.
