KLEBINGAT LECTURE SERIES: THE RESTORATION OF FREDA
Tuesday, March 6, 6:00pm. In the Maritime Library, Fort Mason Center, Bldg. E, 3rd Floor. Donation: $5 general, $4 Maritime Library Friends and San Francisco Maritime National Park Association members. Information and reservations: 415-561-7040, or email. Wheelchair accessible.
Andrea Rey, Associate Director of the Spaulding Wooden Boat Center in Sausalito, will tell about the restoration of the Freda, a 32-ft. gaff sloop. Built in 1885, she is the oldest active sailing yacht on the West Coast, and is widely celebrated as the "Matriarch of San Francisco Bay." One of 60 gaff sloops built in the 19th century, today Freda is the only remaining boat of her kind in existence. Under the leadership of Bob Darr, Director of the Arques School of Traditional Boatbuilding, for the last five years, Freda has become a working classroom for students and visitors who wish to learn about the art and science of boatbuilding.

You are invited to the preview opening and reception at the Visitor Center.

NEW ARCHIVES SPECIALISTS
My name is Sean Brogden, but I go by my middle name (Dan). I'm 46 years old, divorced with three children (all grown). I retired from the U.S. Navy after 21 years of service in 2005, and went back to school at a small University in southeastern Ohio (Rio Grande U.) then Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia for my Masters degree in History. After graduation (last May) I got a job at the Carl Sandburg Home NHS in Flat Rock, NC and then applied for this position in the Archives at San Francisco Maritime NHP. My family is from the East Bay and I am currently looking for an apartment in SF. I've travelled all over Europe and the Middle East. I served in the 1st and 2nd Gulf War, and in Afghanistan (Not on the ground, thank God!), but on board ship. I was in charge of the combat systems on three Aegis Cruisers: The Yorktown, the Leyte Gulf, and the Vicksburg. I was promoted to Chief Petty Officer in 1999, and that was my highest rank in the Navy.

After eight months in Boston, Edward LeBlanc returns as an Archives Specialist. He has also worked at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, NM, the Trenton Public library, NJ, and the Lambertville Public Library (also NJ). Edward hails from the Adirondack Mountains of NY, and resides in San Francisco.
