Celebrations at Sea

Saturday, December 13, 3-4:45pm. Aboard Balclutha. Adults, $5. Ages 15 and under (accompanied by an adult) free. Free with national park passes and for active military with I.D. No reservations needed. Information: 415-447-5000 and nps.gov/safr

This special day aboard Balclutha features live music, refreshments, ornament-making, storytelling, and a visit from Santa! The Dogwatch Nautical Band starts the festivities at 3:00pm, performing traditional chanteys with a holiday twist. Kids of all ages will enjoy ornament-making activities and refreshments from 3:00-4:45pm. As the band concludes its performance, a Park Ranger will read a popular holiday story. Another highlight of the celebration is the arrival of Santa at 4:20pm, who will listen to children’s wishes until the program ends at 4:45pm.

Old Time Maritime Christmas

Saturday, December 13, 6-9pm. Aboard Balclutha. Free. Reservations required. To reserve call the Visitor Center between 9:30am-5pm, 415-447-5000. Info at nps.gov/safr.

Turn back the clock to the year 1901 as the park’s costumed Living History Players present the annual Old Time Maritime Christmas. Take a lamplit tour of Hyde Street Pier and historic vessels led by a nightwatchman. Meet ships’ crews, captains, wives, and Victorian women. Refreshments and live music aboard Balclutha will be at the conclusion of the 50-minute tour. Tours leave every 20 minutes from the Hyde Street Pier entrance beginning 6:00pm, with the last tour leaving 7:40pm. Space is limited. Reserve early.
