Welcome to San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park and to this issue of Fathom This! To see all the tours, program, special events and hours of operation, of Hyde Street Pier, the Maritime Museum, Visitor Center, Research Center, and to learn about our park partners, please see the links provided at the end of this newsletter.

I have enjoyed bringing you news in this format, but HTML has overtaken plain text, and the technology behind Scuttlebutt will allow us to keep you updated using graphics, color, photos, and more.

ALMA AUGUST SAILING SCHEDULE

Haul on lines with the crew to set sail, or relax and take in dazzling views as a park ranger presents talks on San Francisco’s riveting history. SEA MUSIC FESTIVAL

Saturday, September 12, 9:30am -5:00pm. Chantey sing 7:30pm – 9:30pm. Pier stage performances, free. Ship’s admission fees apply for shipboard performances: Adults, $5. Ages 15 and under (accompanied by an adult), free. Free with national park passes and for active military with current I.D. Web page: https://go.nps.gov/18smvs

Join us on Saturday, September 12 for the park’s annual Sea Music festival! Celebrate maritime heritage through performances of songs, instrumentals and dances from two stages on Hyde Street Pier and aboard the historic floating vessels Balclutha and Eureka. The park’s costumed Living History Players will be on hand to show you life in the year 1901. See demonstrations of the pier’s steam-powered Donkey Engine, and demonstrations aboard Balclutha of her capstan and pumps. Members of her crew will demonstrate rigging work.

That evening, join a public chantey sing, 7:30-9:30pm. Reservations needed only for the evening chantey sing: e-mail us or 415-561-7171. This replaces the 1stSaturday of the month chantey sing for September.

27th ANNUAL SEA MUSIC CONCERT SERIES

Join us for the Sea Music Concert Series, a San Francisco tradition, as the park presents some of the finest names in sea music. The Balclutha presents a dazzling nighttime venue for traditional and contemporary songs of the sea!
