The War of 1812 spanned across the eastern half of North America for three years. The fledgling United States would class with British, Canadian and Native American forces on land and at sea, until peace negations were finally reached. Although often cast into obscurity, the war had far reaching impacts including the affirmation of U.S. sovereignty in a global context and the shape of Canadian and American foreign policies and national identities for years to come.
