Organic blacksmithing is the process of forging metal into artistic, organic shapes such as flowers, leaves, and grasses. Participants will use flat, round, angle, and square stock to forge steel, stainless steel, and copper to fabricate natural forms. Instruction will include basic blacksmithing safety, how to manage a coal and propane forge, as well as choreographing the smithing process. Specific patterns to be taught include roses, daisies, irises, maple, oak, and apple leaves, wild grass, vines and cat tails. Time permitting, and depending on participants’ level of expertise, an entire project could be completed utilizing the multiple components fabricated during the class. Participants are encouraged to bring pictures or drawings of items that they wish to reproduce. Beginner and Beyond
