    There is more to a cannon than the BOOM!

    The 24-pound Napoleon smoothbore cannon was considered by Union General William Sherman to be the "workhorse" of the American Civil War - and for good reason. It was the most common cannon and was used by both Union and Confederate forces. In this Every Kid in a Park program, participants will learn:

    1. The basics of how a cannon is fired;
    2. The parts of a cannon that make it fire;
    3. Recreate those parts to "fire" a cannon fabricated from every day materials.
    The program is free and open to the public; no pre-registration is required. The program will also occur rain or shine. Because of the nature of the program, it is better suited for children ages eight and up. If younger children are brought, very close adult supervision is STRONGLY requested.
