Hike to Cedar Butte

  • Multiple Days: 08/04/2017, 08/18/2017, 09/01/2017 Location: White River Visitor Center, Time: 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM Fee Information: No Fee

Join Ranger Richard Sherman for a hike to Cedar Butte. The location has the distinction of being the most important bighorn sheep breeding area in the South Unit of the park and has historically been used as a place to sequester oneself while seeking visions prior to the Sundance.

This is an extremely rugged hike, following a bighorn sheep trail to the top of Cedar Butte.  Wear long pants and hiking footwear with aggressive soles for this 4 hour hike and carry plenty of water. Meet at the White River Visitor Center at 8:00 a.m.  A high clearance vehicle is needed to drive the 1.5 miles unmaintained two track out toward Cedar Butte.
