Bring water, wear good hiking shoes, and be prepared for changing weather.

    October 12 Hike: Wild Landscapes
Join Parkway rangers for an easy, 2-mile round trip hike to beautiful meadow at the base of Sam Knob. We will view wild and managed landscapes, fall colors, and discuss the history of the area. This short hike can be extended to a more strenuous one if participants choose to summit Sam Knob after the guided hike.

Meet at the parking area at the end of the Black Balsam Road (Forest Service Road 816) at Milepost
    420.2.

October 19 Hike: The Mountains of the Monstrous

Join Parkway rangers for a moderate-to-strenuous, 1 mile round-trip hike to the top of Devil’s Courthouse. This will be our last hike of the season and we’ll end with some pre-Halloween Parkway lore. Legend says there’s more in the woods than bears and deer. Perhaps a monster lurks under the surface of the river. Or a ghost waits for you at a lonely overlook. Maybe Spearfinger silently tracks you down a familiar trail. Do you dare tread in the footsteps of giants?

Meet at the Devil’s Courthouse Overlook at Milepost 422.4.
