Pipestone National Monument's Anniversary Event

  • Multiple Days: Annually, Every 25th of August from 08/25/2015 to 08/25/2025 Location: Pipestone National Monument, Time: 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM

    In celebration of Pipestone National Monument’s 81st birthday, the monument is hosting an Open House at the visitor center on Saturday, August 25, 2018 from 10am to 2pm. Complimentary refreshments and cookies will be provided by the Pipestone Indian Shrine Association. At 11am, Mr. Lyle W Miller Sr. will give a presentation on Lakota art, culture, history, dance, and regalia. Park entrance and all activities are free.
    Mr. Miller is a lifelong artist and teacher. He received his Bachelor of Art degree from Dakota Wesleyan University and taught art and Dakota language at Crow Creek Tribal School for many years. He has served as the Director of Tribal Historic Preservation at the Yankton Sioux Tribe and as the Repatriation Specialist for the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe. His artwork has been featured in the Minnesota History Center and numerous other venues.
