This year’s “Spreading Wings” theme was inspired by the Highlands Center’s location atop dramatic sea cliffs and vital stop for birds traveling the Atlantic Flyway. Read more

    AmeriCorps’ Dedicates Week to “Protect, Preserve and Prepare” for Centennial

    Youngsters Touch NPS Careers during Cape Cod's "Touch a Truck" Event

    Over 300 families and children turned out for Cape Cod's Junior Ranger "Touch a Truck" event on April 20. In celebration of the National Park Service Centennial, all five divisions of the seashore collaborated to offer this event which showcased vehicles and equipment used to accomplish park work.     New Partnership with Local Doctors Gets People Moving on Cape Cod Trails

    Through a new partnership with Cape Cod Healthcare, visitors and residents met up with medical professionals at Cape Cod National Seashore trailheads to kick start their way to a healthy lifestyle. Participants work with doctors to track their progress using a passport book and maps of five self-guided trails to work towards their personal health goals and some fun rewards. Read more

    Public Art Commemorates DOE Climate Research Facility

    For one year, from July 2012 to 2013, the Cape Cod National Seashore hosted the Department of Energy’s Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) Mobile Climate Research Facility at the Highlands Center. To commemorate the presence of the ARM facility, Highlands Fest 2013 included the painting of a mural depicting earth’s energy cycle, designed by AmeriCorps Cape Cod member Kristen Grace. Read more

    A Year of Atmospheric Measurements and Student Learning

    This July marks the end of the one-year deployment of the Department of Energy’s Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) Mobile Climate Research Facility at the Highlands Center. Over the past year, scientists have been collecting data related to aerosols— tiny particles in the air such as dust, soot and sea salt—and how they affect clouds and the climate. Read more

    Highlands Fest 2013 Celebrates Climate Research and the Arts

    The Cape Cod National Seashore hosted the 6th annual Highlands Fest in June at the Highlands Center in North Truro. Highlands Fest is a celebration of the Highlands Center, whose mission is to foster the unique and cultural heritage of Cape Cod by engaging in an environment in which scientific research, arts creation, and educational programs can flourish. The theme for this year’s event was “Weathering Change in Our Air, Land and Sea.” Read more

    On July 11, 2013, Cape Cod National Seashore hosted the grand opening of the new bathhouse at Herring Cove Beach in Provincetown. Many community members came to celebrate the beautiful new structure, which is a model for sustainable design and construction, and enjoy the festive atmosphere with live music, free food, and remarks from the superintendent.
