National Capital Region (NCR) Regional Archeologist Dr. Stephen R. Potter is the winner of the 2016 John L. Cotter Award for Excellence in National Park Service Archeology (Professional Achievement). Dr. Potter has served as the Regional Archeologist for NCR for the past 36 years. Mr William Reitze was this year's winner of the John L. Cotter Project Award for his project at Petrified Forest National Park. Read the award announcement.
NCR Regional Archeologist Dr. Stephen R. Potter and Dr. John Bedell of the Louis Berger Group have co-authored a chapter entitled "The Sensation of this Week: Archaeology and the Battle of Fort Stevens," for the new book From These Honored Dead: Historical Archaeology of the American Civil War, published by Universty Press of Florida.
