Preparing for the Tule Elk Docent Program is a shared responsibility between you and the volunteer program manager. We expect you to complete training activities on your own in addition to attending the scheduled in-class training. We will provide you with the resources to facilitate your learning and development.

Preparing for the docent program includes:

  1. Completing training and administrative activities before the in-class training
  2. Attending the in-class training
  3. Completing training and administrative activities after the in-class training

 

In-Class Training Details

Date: July 9 and 23, 2016
Time: 8:30 am to 5:00 pm each day
Where: Red Barn Classroom at Bear Valley (directions). After turning off of Bear Valley Road, drive towards the Bear Valley Visitor Center. Before arriving at the visitor center, you will see a sign directing you to turn left on a dirt road towards the Red Barn Classroom.

Check-in for both days begins at 8:15 am, and the training will begin at 8:30 am. Please arrive early so that we can begin on time.

On Saturday, we will be spending the day at the Red Barn Classroom.
On Sunday, we will begin at the Red Barn Classroom, but spend most of the day at Tomales Point.

We will be providing snacks and beverages on Saturday while at the Red Barn.

We expect you to prepare for the in-class training as follows:

Before the in-class training
Complete the training and administrative activities detailed on the Training Activity Schedule.

For Saturday
Bring the following:

  1. Signed Volunteer Agreement Form (see Training Activity Schedule)
  2. Signed CLETS Form (see Training Activity Schedule)

For Sunday
Bring the following:

  1. Footwear for hiking
  2. Sunscreen
  3. Sunglasses
  4. Hat for shade and cold wind
  5. Sweater or jacket for cold wind and fog

The weather conditions at Tomales Point can include bright sun, cold wind, and thick fog. Please do what you can to prepare for all of these conditions.

For both days
Bring the following:

  1. Lunch and water
  2. Pen or pencil
  3. Paper for note taking
