On August 25, 1916, President Woodrow Wilson signed the "Organic Act" which effectively created the National Park Service. The act stated the Park Service was "to conserve the scenery and the natural and historic objects and wildlife therein, and to provide for the enjoyment of future generations." Today we celebrate August 25th as Founder's Day or the National Park Service Birthday.  Join the rangers and volunteers at the Alaska Public Lands Information Center for a day long "party." . While you're here explore the museum displays, catch one of our great Alaskan movies, join a ranger for the Captain Cook Walking Tour, or see the special 2:00 program in our theater.  The center will be open from 9am to 5:00pm.
