John Whitfield, member of the Booker T. Washington Research Institute, will examine slavery, primarily during the Civil War, in what today is known as the Gill's Creek area of Franklin County, Virginia. The program will focus on the changes brought to the local area by the Civil War and identify some of the surviving structures that would have been known by Booker T. Washington and his neighbors. A reception of light refreshments will be provided by the Friends of Booker T. Washington National Monument.
