On July 5, 1852 Frederick Douglass climbed onto a stage in Rochester, NY and into the history books.

His audience that day came to hear just another 4th of July speech. What they got was as brilliant indictment of slavery and of those who would not lift a hand to attack "the accursed system" as the country had ever seen.

On July 4th hear the speech ring out from the steps of Frederick Douglass's own home in Washington, D.C.

Tours of the site will be available.

Free and open to the public.

Parking is available at the Visitor Center parking lot at the corner of 15th and W ST SE.
