Description
Aztec Ruins' Lecture Series will continue with Shawn Price, who will be presenting a lecture titled William Tecumseh Sherman: War-Maker, Peacemaker. He will briefly highlight Sherman’s early life and known Civil War exploits, then focus on Sherman’s role with the Peace Commission of 1867-1868. This commission established seven Tribal Accords, including the Navajo Treaty of June 1, 1868. These Nation-to-Nation agreements are legally profound to this day.
This free event will begin at 11:00am in the Aztec Ruins Visitor Center. All are welcome to attend.
Shawn Price is the current director for the Dineh'Tah Navajo Cultural Program, which has received many honors and accolades from numerous distinguished venues and events abroad. He is a Traditional orator and historian, whose many responsibilities include his practice as a Traditional practitioner and Herbalist. He is an advocate for Tribal issues, especially the protection of sacred sites, and for seeking Tribal, State and Federal legislation to protect Native dances and songs from exploitation and misappropriation. He continues to be consulted as a resource by many cultural centers, historical museums, welcome centers, event organizers, and other public and media program planners. He is a graduate of the University of New Mexico, in Communications and Journalism. His current work includes writing and research on the history of Tribal Treaties and their significance, and on the notable historical figures, such as General William Tecumseh Sherman, who were involved in establishing these Nation-to-Nation agreements.
