Description
In honor of National Park Week, Moores Creek National Battlefield will be holding a Junior Ranger Day at the park from 10 am until 3 pm on Saturday April 24. The event will feature both in-person events and virtual events on the park’s website (www.nps.gov/mocr).
The event will begin with a ceremony conducted by the Stamp Defiance Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) at 11:00 am. This DAR chapter will be offering a donation of a new swivel cannon, which will be used in park historic weapons demonstrations.
Following the program, the swivel gun will be demonstrated at the park on the hour beginning at noon, with the final demonstration taking place at 3:00 pm. In addition, staff and volunteers will be offering musket demonstrations and a hands-on program about the rolling of musket cartridges in the American Revolution. The park will also be offering its new Junior Ranger booklet to all prospective Junior Rangers in attendance.
Visitors to Moores Creek National Battlefield should be aware that to protect the health of those who live, work, and visit national parks and National Park Service (NPS) facilities, and in support of President Biden’s Executive Order on Protecting the Federal Workforce and Requiring Mask-Wearing, the NPS implemented a mask requirement for employees, visitors, partners, and contractors.
Face masks are now required in all park buildings and facilities, including visitor centers and museums. Masks are also required on NPS-managed lands when physical distancing cannot be maintained, including trails. As conditions are subject to change, visitors should check park websites and social media channels for details on operations before they visit.
Park rangers are on duty to provide information, protect visitors and park resources, and uphold this requirement.
