Description
Once a year during Black History Month, visitors have the rare opportunity to walk in the footsteps of its creator, Dr. Carter G. Woodson. Noted actor, Darius Wallace portraying Dr. Woodson, leads visitors in a first-person narrative through the historic Logan Circle and Shaw Neighborhoods. The script, derived from Dr. Woodson's actual words and experiences, highlights noted figures and landmarks relating to Black History. The program concludes with a short performance explaining why he created Negro History Week, which later became Black History Month at Shiloh Baptist Church, accompanied with hot chocolate and coffee. (90 min, outdoor portion: 30 min). Distance is approximately ½ mile.
The walk will start at the Mary McLeod Bethune Council House NHS (1318 Vermont Avenue, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20020)
