Description

Have you ever looked up at the moon and wanted to learn more about it?  Or heard an interesting tidbit about the moon and wondered if it was true?  Well, you won't want to miss this program!  Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument and Manzano Mountains State Park are partnering for a second time this summer to offer an astronomy event during the Perseid Meteor Shower.  The moon will be close to full during the peak of the Perseids this year, so we'll have the chance to study the moon's features while observing the meteors.

We'll start the evening at 7pm with a Ranger program about the moon.  Afterwards, we'll have telescopes and spotting scopes available for guided night sky viewing.  This event will be held at the Group Campsite in the Manzano Mountains State Park Campground.  The event is free, but day use or camping fees apply.  The best viewing for meteor showers is typically in the predawn hours, so consider reserving a campsite for meteor shower viewing.

No reservations are required for the event, but if you'd like to stay in the campground, you can reserve a campsite online.
