Description

This ranger series will explore the complex and controversial story of slavery in Maryland.  The voices of the enslaved are woven into the fabric of history of the land now known as Monocacy National Battlefield.  From the late 18th century when upwards of 90 men and women were enslaved on a French/Caribbean plantation known as L'Hermitage, to the Civil War, where the enslaved took shelter during the battle, their story is one of survival, defiance of tyranny, and emancipation.
