Description

The NPS and Alcatraz Island are excited to have Bay Area photographer Ilka Hartmann present “Reflections of the Occupation in Film” for our February Second Saturday Native American cultural event. Ilka’s widely-acclaimed photography captured the Civil Rights movements in the Bay Area including the Occupation of Alcatraz Island by the Indians of All Tribes. Her Occupation photographs are part of the special exhibition Red Power on Alcatraz: Reflections 50 Years Later in the New Industries Building on Alcatraz Island through June 2021.

Ilka will moderate two short films on Native Americans and the Occupation, both of which feature her photographs. The event is open to the public and audience participation is encouraged.
