Description

The final “Second Saturday Tour” for 2019 will be held on Saturday, August 10, and will visit a line of earthworks four miles north of the city. In 2018 the tour group visited the northern section of this line, this year we will explore the southern section. These earthworks were constructed on May 19, 1862 during the month-long siege of Corinth. The soldiers who built them were from Brig. Gen. Thomas Davies' 2nd Division, Army of the Tennessee.

In the number of men engaged, the siege of Corinth would prove to be the largest siege ever on this continent. Nearly 200,000 men from 5 armies struggled for the possession of Corinth’s vital railroad crossing.

Like July’s tour to Camp Davies, this will be the first time the National Park Service has offered this tour to the general public.
