Information
Heading to Mount Rainier this summer? Here's what you need to know.
Mount Rainier National Park has experienced an approximate 40% increase in visitation over the last 10 years, leading to overcrowding during the summer and damage to fragile ecosystems. In 2025, Mount Rainier National Park is continuing a pilot timed entry reservation system to improve the visitor experience to the park by reducing wait times, congestion, and resource impacts on trails caused by overcrowding.
In 2025, a timed entry reservation is required only for the Sunrise Corridor in the northeast corner of the park from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. Timed entry reservations are good for a single day, per vehicle, and are required in addition to an entrance fee or park pass. The Paradise Corridor timed entry pilot will be paused in 2025 due to major construction projects and closures that make implementation of a timed entry reservation system challenging from both a public access and operational perspective.
What You Need
- July 11 through September 1 daily timed entry reservations are required to enter the Sunrise Corridor from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.
- September 2 through the end of the season (typically mid-October) weekends and holidays only timed entry reservations are required to enter the Sunrise Corridor on the northeast side of the park from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.
- Visitors entering the park in a vehicle or on a motorcycle in one of these areas during these dates need two things:
- A timed entry reservation OR service reservation (camping, wilderness permit, etc.), AND
- Park Entrance Fee OR valid Park Pass (Annual, Senior, Military, etc.). See the FAQ page for details.
- The park is open 24/7 and visitors may enter timed entry reservation areas before 7:00 am or after 5:00 pm without a reservation.
Already booked a reservation or permit?
- Visitors who acquire a first-come first-served permit at White River Campground within the Sunrise Corridor can use their camping permit instead of using a timed entry reservation to gain access to the Sunrise Corridor. See the FAQ page for details.
- Visitors with Wilderness Permits or Special Use Permits can use their permits instead of using a timed entry reservation to gain access to the associated corridor of their permit. Check your permit carefully for instructions for your specific permit; access varies. See the FAQ page for details.

Timed Entry Reservation Exceptions
Reservations may not be required to visit Sunrise Corridor for the following reasons:
- If you enter the Sunrise Corridor by vehicle/motorcycle before 7 am or after 5 pm, you do not need a reservation.
- If you are arriving on foot or by bike.
- If you are a permit holder, you may enter the park without reservations as outlined in your permit for the following: wilderness or climbing, special uses, research, or commercial use authorizations.
- If you obtain a camping reservation for White River Campground, an additional timed entry reservation is not required to enter Sunrise Corridor. However, White River Campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis. Access to White River Campground is available before 7 am and after 5 pm without a timed entry reservation. Access to the campground between 7 am to 5 pm will require a timed entry reservation. Timed entry reservations do not guarantee a campsite but once a site is secured, you may use your camping reservation to exit and re-enter Sunrise Corridor anytime throughout your stay. Note: There are no lodges/hotels available within Sunrise Corridor.
- If you enter Sunrise Corridor after September 1, 2025, through the end of the season (typically mid-October) you will only need reservations on weekends and holidays.
Explore without a Timed Entry Reservation
ALL areas of the park require a park entrance fee or park pass to enter. Timed entry reservations are only required between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm to enter the Sunrise Corridors. Outside of that period, visitors can enter without a timed entry reservation. Some areas of the park do not require a timed entry reservation at any time. These are:
- SR410 and SR123 on the east side of the park.
- Longmire, including the National Park Inn and Cougar Rock Campground, in the southwest corner of the park.
- Paradise, including the Paradise Inn, in the southwest corner of the park.
- Tipsoo Lake on the eastern border of the park along SR410.
