Perry's Victory Rangers to fire carronade at dedication of barn v
From a distance, the larger than life image of Oliver Hazard Perry came alive last Wednesday under the artful brush strokes of celebrated barn painter Scott Hagan. Located on SR 105 just two miles west of Oak Harbor, the iconic image of Perry is hard to miss.

Perrys Victory celebrates 204 years
Nearly 104 years ago, on September 11, 1913, the remains of midshipmen Henry Laub and John Clark and Lt. John Brooks were moved from DeRivera Park to a crypt beneath the rotunda of Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial. On September 8-10, the National Park and its partners will honor them and all others who fought in the Battle of Lake Erie with a celebration of history, music, and art at the 26th annual Historic Weekend.

Perrys Victory still has Senior Passes
Seniors 62 and older who want a Senior Pass can still obtain one at Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial on South Bass Island. “We just received an additional one thousand passes this past Saturday,” said Superintendent Barbara Fearon. “The Park wants to be able to accommodate as many seniors as possible before the price increase begins on Monday.” The Park had less than 80 passes before the new passes arrived.

National Park honors Oliver Hazard Perry
The life of Oliver Hazard Perry – “The Hero of Lake Erie” – will be celebrated on August 19 and 20 at Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial with living history programs and black powder artillery demonstrations. “Oliver Hazard Perry and his actions on September 10, 1813 is the cornerstone of why we are here,” said Park Superintendent Barbara Fearon. “Celebrating his birth is a natural event for Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial.”

Seniors have options for purchasing National Park passes
Senior citizens have several options in obtaining a $10 Lifetime Senior Pass before the fee increases to $80 on Monday, August 28, and one of them is to take a ferry boat ride to Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial on South Bass Island. “We’ve witnessed a 40 percent increase in Senior pass sales the past two weeks,” said Superintendent Barbara Fearon, “and many seniors have told us they planned a visit to the island around getting their lifetime passes.” Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial is located on a small resort island in lake Erie’s western basin. The island is accessible only by ferry boat, private watercraft, and small private and commercial aircraft.

Park hosts barbershop singers
Visitors will enjoy an old fashioned summer tradition on Friday, August 11, at Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial when harmony is key at the 70th annual Barbershop Singers Concert at 7 pm on the back porch of the Visitor Center. “We look forward to this event every summer,” said Superintendent Barbara Fearon, “and we’re proud to be part of the history of the barbershop singers.”

Seniors scramble to purchase lifetime passes
Baby Boomers are lining up at Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial’s Visitor Center to purchase a lifetime Senior Pass before August 28 when the pass increases from $10 to $80. The Lifetime Senior Pass has been $10 since the fee was enacted in 1994. Congress created a free annual pass for those 62 and older in 1972. In 1974 they converted it to a free lifetime pass.

On July 31, 2017 Dan Skoufos will retire from the National Park Service after 22 years, more than two decades spent at his current duty station at Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial here at Put-in-Bay.

Don’t Give Up the Chance to Experience Your Park in 2017
Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial will open for the season Saturday, May 20. Put-in-Bay’s largest attraction has a full schedule of programs and events planned for 2017 despite the memorial column being inaccessible while it undergoes repairs. “We are giving the memorial some love this season as any 102 year-old deserves,” said Superintendent Barbara Fearon, “but it’s not slowing us down in sharing the park’s history and mission, or in experimenting with new events and ranger programs.”

Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial Proposes Fee Increase
Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial (PEVI) will host two open houses to discuss a possible fee increase in 2016. The park proposes an increase to the Memorial Column entrance fee. The current entrance fee of $3.00 has been in place since 1997. In 2007 PEVI postponed a scheduled fee increase to $5.00. This postponement was due to the memorial being closed for restoration. In order to stay on track with the fee schedule, PEVI proposes an increase in the amount of $7.00 per person for visitors 16 years and older.
