Pearl Harbor Ambassador:

Description

Opportunities abound as a Park Ambassador at Pearl Harbor National Memorial! Are you excited about national parks, military history, or building a legacy of hope? Would you like to share your enthusiasm with the public? Some of the opportunities for this position include:

  • Serve as a front-line representative of the National Park Service working at the park entrance plaza, information desk, and the memorial theatre.
  • Greeting people visiting from around the country and the world.
  • Volunteer for special park events throughout the year, including the Blackened Canteen, December 7th Commemoration Ceremony, Lights for Peace, and more!
  • Meet fellow volunteers and attend annual park picnic or other park related social events.

DUTIES

The volunteer serves as a front-line representative of the agency working at the park entrance plaza, information desk, and the memorial theatre. The volunteer will greet park visitors and provide information about the park, orientation, directions, and help staff events. Pearl Harbor is a powerful place with a legacy that impacts our visitors in diverse and personal ways. Ambassadors will help visitors find those personal connections and understand their impact. Provide information about the boat schedule and logistics of getting to the USS Arizona Memorial. Provide accurate and objective information on other opportunities within the park and partnership sites that can be visited. Duties may also include stocking brochure displays, answering telephone inquiries, operating office equipment, recording visitor statistics, standing for extended periods of time, and opening/closing of building.

Volunteers are required to wear the provided volunteer uniform and represent the National Park Service by acting in a courteous and professional manner with visitors, park staff, and other volunteers. Possess good communication and interpersonal skills and an interest in the events and ramifications of December 7th, 1941. Ability to learn about the park resources and share this information with park visitors a must. Opportunities to train and grow as an interpretive volunteer will be available.

QUALIFICATIONS

Volunteer will be working with the public and are often the first person that visitors will come in contact with. A positive attitude, good interpersonal skills, and empathy are a must! Patience, the ability to cope with stress, and strong communication skills will serve the volunteer well. Passion for the site and continued learning, as well as a proactive engagement in the NPS are very important!

Landscaper:

Description

We are seeking dedicated and dependable Volunteer Landscapers to help maintain the beauty and serenity of the grounds. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy working outdoors, take pride in maintaining natural spaces, and are passionate about preserving the legacy of our nation's history.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with general landscape maintenance, including:
  • Trimming, pruning, weeding, and mulching
  • Watering and caring for native plants
  • Removing invasive plant species
  • Raking leaves and clearing walkways
  • Help maintain flower beds, memorial gardens, and ceremonial areas
  • Assist with planting and seasonal landscaping projects
  • Follow National Park Service safety protocols and guidelines
  • Provide support during special events or clean-up days as needed
