Garfield, AR- Beginning August 24, 2015, Pea Ridge National Military Park will increase entrance fees for visitors in order to fund important maintenance and improvement projects within the park. This increase is part of a larger National Park Service (NPS) initiative to standardize fees in similar parks across the US by placing fee parks in one of four groups. Pea Ridge National Military Park was placed in Group 1, the lowest entrance fee group, and given the corresponding fee schedule. The change in the fee rate is outlined below:

Current per person fee will increase from $5 to $7 per person age 16 and up.

Current per vehicle fee will increase from $10 per vehicle to $15 per vehicle.

Current motorcycle fee will increase from $5 to $10.

Current annual Pea Ridge Park Pass will increase from $20 to $30.

2 or more adults (16 and over) in one vehicle will be charged the $15 per vehicle fee.

The fee increase ONLY applies to Pea Ridge NMP specific passes. Interagency passes (Senior Pass;Military Pass;Access Pass;Annual Interagency Pass) will remain at their current prices.

"This increase in fees will allow us to continue to protect, preserve and share the special places here at Pea Ridge National Military Park," said Pea Ridge NMP Superintendent Kevin Eads. "After carefully considering the impact of a fee increase on visitors and local communities, we came to the conclusion that this is the right course of action to improve facilities and services important to visitors."

Entrance fees have supported a wide range of projects that improve the park and visitor experiences. They include, the purchase and installation of emergency lighting, additional handicap seating in the auditorium, seasonal employees, interpretive programs, repair and maintenance to structures and park facilities, purchase of 9 paintings of the battlefield that are on exhibit and used for new wayside panels along the park tour road, a potable water system update, and purchase and installation of additional security gates and cameras. Additional revenue from this fee increase will allow us to further improve and provide for visitor experiences. Including projects such as restoring the Elkhorn Tavern, continue hiring seasonal employees, developing educational exhibits for the Visitor Center, providing Junior Ranger patches, protecting the federal earthworks, and providing hands on learning opportunities for youth and young adults to name a few.

In the fall of 2014, the National Park Service conducted a nationwide review of entrance fees. To solicit public input, Pea Ridge NMP launched a civic engagement campaign in November 2014. During the public comment period, the park received four formal comments. Three of the four comments were in support of the fee increase.

Pea Ridge National Military Park preserves and commemorates the site of the March 1862 Civil War battle that helped Union forces maintain control of the state of Missouri. Administered by the National Park Service, the 4,300 acre battlefield is located 10 miles north of Rogers just off of US Highway 62.
