One program we offer for students on field trips is an Interactive Cannon Program. During this program, 6 students are chosen as the cannon "crew" and they are given the tools cannoneers would have needed to load and fire a Civil War era cannon. As the students are taught to load and fire the gun, the ranger discusses artillery during the Civil War and their role during the Battle of Pea Ridge in March of 1862.
We do NOT fire the cannon during this program.
The students do not handle any sort of black powder (explosives).
Because this program is outside, it is subject to weather conditions. The program is also subject to ranger availability.
You must request this program when scheduling your group.
