Note: to identify structure locations, see Map 4 (page 105).

NPS building designations (BR- or BR/R-) were assigned by NPS Facility Design and Maintenance Division staff; concessions building designations (BRC- or BRC/R-) were provided by author. Sources used in compiling building names and construction dates are listed at the end of the appendix.

BROOKS CAMP

Concessions Buildings:

BRC-1 = Laundry/Warehouse/Shop, Panabode construction. 1985-86

BRC-2 = Employee cabin, tar paper construction. c. 1950; moved from tent complex to site c. 1985

BRC-3 = Bath House, Panabode construction. 1984-85

BRC-4 = Eagles Nest (residence for manager or married employees), Panabode construction. 1984-85

BRC-5 to BRC-15 = Employee Quarters, Panabode construction. 1984-85

BRC-16 = Employee Cabin, Panabode construction. c. 1987

BRC-17 = Storage building, tar paper construction. c. 1950

BRC-18 = Lodge Office/Manager's Residence/Trading Post; Panabode construction, 32x22 (as the manager's residence, called the "Eagles Nest" before 1984). 1956

BRC-19 = Brooks Camp Lodge (lodge/lounge/kitchen/dining room); Panabode construction, 40x60 with two underground storage cellars. Built on the site of original (tent-frame) Brooks Lodge (erected 1950, razed 1960). 1960-61, expanded 1984-85

BRC-20 = Shower/bathhouse, Panabode construction, 12x32. 1960-61

BRC-21 to BRC-27 = Cabin #21-27, Brooks Lodge; Panabode construction. 1960-61

BRC-28 = Skytel (Units 28-36), Panabode construction. 1964-65

BR-1 = Visitor Contact Station, log construction, 1956. Ranger station until 1990; also called NPS-1.

BR-38 = "Boathouse/Ranger Office," cedar log structure, c. 1962. Boat House in 1963, converted to a VIP residence in 1964, "NPS Cabin" in 1966 & 1973, Boat House in 1981, Admin Cabin in 1987; also called NPS-2.

BR-39 = Maintenance Shop, Panabode construction, 1963. Warehouse in 1963/66/73, multi-use building (warehouse & comfort station) in 1976, dry storage/bath in 1981, laundry/warehouse in 1987; also called NPS-4.

BR-40 = Ranger Cache, cedar log construction, 1963. Generator in 1963, Power House in 1966 & 1973, Utility Building in 1976, Maintenance Building in 1981, Boat/Office (Koehler Shed) in 1987; also called NPS-5.

BR-41 = Employee cabin, Panabode construction, 1962. Called "Rangers" in 1987. Called #1 in 1963, also called NPS-6.

BR-42 = Employee cabin, Panabode construction, 1962. Called "Maintenance Residence" in 1987. Called #2 in 1963, also called NPS-7.

BR-43 = Employee cabin, Panabode construction, 1962. Called "Rangers" in 1987. Called #3 in 1963, also called NPS-8.

BR-44 = Generator Building, Panabode construction, 1975. Called Utility Building in 1976; Power House in 1981; Generator/Water Treatment in 1987.

BR-45 = Fish Cleaning Station, Panabode construction, 1970. Replaced open-mesh structure, same function, blt. 1950.

BR-46 = Employee cabin, Panabode construction, c. 1967. Tent site in 1966. Called NPS-9 in 1987.

BR-47 = Employee Cabin, Panabode construction, c. 1967. Called NPS-3 in 1987.

BR-48 = Employee cabin, Panabode construction, 1980. Tent frame site from 1967-79. Called BR-42 in 1987.

BR-49 = Employee cabin, Panabode construction, 1980. Tent frame site in 1967-79. Called BR-41 in 1987.

BR-50 = Employee cabin, Panabode construction, 1980. Tent frame site in 1967-79. Called BR-43 in 1987.

BR-51 = Eskimo Pit House Exhibit, c. 1968.

BR-52 = Weather instrument shelter/weather station, 1966-73.

BR-53 = Auditorium, wooden frame construction, 1974. Built as the contractor's bunkhouse; called the Visitor Center 1977 through 1989.

BR-54 = Storage shed for ranger equipment, plywood construction, c. 1988. This low-roofed shed has been moved several times; it was once 30 feet NNW of BR-47.

BR-55 = Incinerator Building, Panabode construction, 1990-91.

BRT-1 = Tent Quarters, tent frame and canvas, 12x12, 1967, 1983. Tent frame site 1967-79, vacated 1980, rebuilt 1983. Called "Tent Frame #1" in 1987.

BRT-2 = Tent Quarters, tent frame and canvas, 12x12, 1983. Called "Tent Frame #2" in 1987.

Razed Buildings:

BRC/R-1 to BRC/R-16 = former Brooks Camp concessioner complex. Served as guest complex, 1950-1960; guest and employee complex, 1960-65; employee complex, 1965-84. They were built between 1950 and 1960 and razed in 1985-86. The complex consisted of:

9 residence cabins, of tar paper construction;

2 cabins/storage buildings, tar paper;

1 cabin/bathhouse building, tar paper;

1 maintenance building (generator house), tar paper;

1 maintenance building (fuel storage), tar paper;

1 trading post/laundry, tar paper; and

1 painthouse/storage building, metal.

BR/R-1) storage cache (called BR-3 in 1976) 1956, razed 1981-87.

BR/R-2) wood shed 1963-66, razed 1981-87.

BR/R-3) generator house (called BR-2 in 1976) 1956, razed 1981-87.

Campground Structures (built by NPS):

2 tent frames, 1950.

3 adirondack-style shelters, 1972.

2 caches: 1966, 1981.
