The Basin and Range Province in Utah, Nevada, and California

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

In many respects these pages are a joint contribution from the several members of the Geological Survey whose recent studies, both published and unpublished, in the Great Basin region have provided much of the basic information here presented. I am greatly indebted to them for many enlightening discussions, as well as for the use of numerous unpublished data, and have refrained from designating some of them as co-authors only because some of my conclusions have not been uniformly accepted.

Among these collaborators, to whom are due my deepest appreciation, are Eugene Callaghan, for a critical reading of the section on structural history; F. C. Calkins, for unpublished data on the Cottonwood and Comstock Lode districts; H. G. Ferguson, for a critical reading of the whole paper, many stimulating discussions, and much unpublished information on many parts of Nevada; C. L. Gazin, of the National Museum, for a critical reading of the section on Cenozoic stratigraphy; James Gilluly, for data and suggestions regarding both stratigraphic and structural problems; D. F. Hewett, who provided in addition to sympathetic supervision, the draft of a summary of Great Basin geology and much unpublished information on the Ivanpah quadrangle; W. D. Johnston, Jr., for unpublished information on the Comstock Lode region; Edwin Kirk, Jr., for critical reading of the section on the pre-Carboniferous Paleozoic stratigraphy; G. F. Loughlin, for many helpful suggestions throughout the manuscript; S. W. Muller, for unpublished information on western Nevada, especially in regard to the Mesozoic stratigraphy; J. B. Reeside, Jr., for critical reading of the section on Mesozoic stratigraphy; W. W. Rubey, for critical reading of the section on structural history; J. S. Williams, for critical reading of the section on Carboniferous stratigraphy; and W. P. Woodring, for critical reading of the section on Cenozoic stratigraphy and assistance in its preparation.
