ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Frederic J. Athearn has been a resident of Colorado most of his life. He received a B.A. in History and Spanish from the University of Colorado, Boulder in 1968, a M.A. (R) in History from St. Louis University in 1969 and a Ph.D. in Western History from the University of Texas at Austin in 1974. The author has taught U.S. History, Western History and Colorado History at both the University of Texas and the University of Colorado. He is the author of An Isolated Empire: A History of Northwestern Colorado (1976), has published articles in numerous professional history journals and has delivered papers to professional groups. The author is presently historian for the Bureau of Land Management's Colorado State Office in Denver, Colorado, a position he has occupied since 1975.
